You might be buying the freshest, most organic vegetables and still be consuming chemicals because of your utensils. Yes, you read that right. Your utensils might be to blame for your health problems. But my utensils are completely clean, you say. That might be exactly where the problem lies.
Most dishwashing liquids used for cleaning utensils are composed of a variety of chemicals. Triclosan is used to make dish washing liquids anti-bacterial but it has adverse effects on the thyroid gland. It is also detrimental to the environment. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is used as a foaming agent but it can cause allergies. There are many more toxic chemicals such as phosphates and formaldehyde too which are used in most, if not all, of these dish washing liquids. Even though you might be thoroughly rinsing your utensils, a residue of all of these chemicals often remains on the surface and is ingested when you eat.
So, how can you prevent having chemicals as a topping on your favourite food?
Make use of alternatives:
Alternatives like vinegar and baking soda can be used to remove greasiness from utensils. Baking soda is a gentle abrasive and vinegar is known for removing stubborn stains. However, you might have to be careful while using baking soda as certain metals are reactive and can get discoloured. Also, vinegar’s smell can be overpowering.
Buy disposable dishes:
You can use disposable dishes to eliminate chemicals from entering your food. Earlier, disposable dishes were made with materials that were not eco friendly and which were detrimental to the environment. But these days, you can buy disposable dishes made of several biodegradable materials. However, it can be expensive to have to buy disposable dishes constantly.
Use organic dishwashing liquids:
By far the easiest method to not have chemicals remaining on your utensils is to use organic dish cleaning liquids such as Proklean’s liquid dish wash, ProDish. Made with naturally derived ingredients, ProDish cleans utensils thoroughly and also leaves no residue. It has no parabens or chemical like SLS either. Organic dish cleaning liquids like these can clean utensils effectively without having adverse effects on your health or the environment.
The increase in the use of chemicals in most available products is detrimental for health. Among these health concerns, the harm that arises from chemicals left as residues on utensils is often overlooked. However, if you follow the above methods, you can make sure that you are at least not including these chemicals in your diet!
